150 Feet Of Wire Stolen From Athens County Verizon Cell Tower

Authorities are investigation after approximately 150 feet of wire was taken from an Athens County cellular tower.

According to the Athens County Sheriff's Office, the wire was taken from a Verizon cell tower on Antle Orchard Road on Thursday.

A Verizon employee told authorities that the ground wires outside of the control office were also cut.

Officials said that the thief gained entry to the area by cutting a fence.

All the copper wire was also removed by the tower by the thief climbing the tower and unbolting it.

Officials said the last time the tower was visited was on Aug. 19.

Service was not interrupted because of the theft.
