UPDATED: Thursday September 5, 2013 5:42 AM

Police were searching for a gunman after a shooting near Hungarian Village.

Police say 23-year-old Kevin Brown was shot near Bucher Street and Reeb Avenue shortly before 3 p.m. Wednesday.

The shooting started in an alley behind a market near 5th Street and Reeb Avenue.

Detectives say Brown was involved in a physical fight with the gunman.

Brown was taken to Grant Medical Center in critical condition.

No arrests have been made.

“It’d be really tragic if a kid were to come by and get hit by one of the bullets, you know,” said Michelle Stroud, who said she heard the gunshots. “It’s just ridiculous. You can’t have nothing in this neighborhood. It’s crazy.”
