Police in Hilliard are looking for a driver who struck a bicyclist and fled from the scene.
“I just saw the aftermath,” said witness Thane Thatcher.
The bicycle was ripped apart Sunday morning by a hit and run driver.
“Any time a bicycle comes apart, you have to think that's bad. I mean it wasn't just side-by-side, it was separated on either side of the road by 25 to 30 feet,” added Thatcher.
The 44-year-old father who was riding the bike was left lying nearby. Thatcher says a woman pulled over and held his hand until help came.
Police say the rider, Brad Young, is at Riverside Hospital. He's suffering from "significant" injuries. The person who put him there is still on the loose.
“We are asking the public to come forward with any information they may have,” said Sgt. Curtis Baker, Hilliard PD.
Hilliard police say investigators can't be sure whether it was a car, truck or SUV that caused the wreck.
Officers believe the vehicle has damage to the front end, and they want the public to be on the lookout for somebody driving with new damage.
“If the driver is out there listening, we ask that he do the right thing and come forward,” added Baker.
Police said the victim was wearing a helmet that likely saved his life.
