Firefighters battled flames at a detached garage near a Blacklick apartment complex Monday morning.
Officials said the fire started in the 1100 block of Jefferson Chase Way around 5:30 a.m.
The fire then flashed over to a nearby apartment complex, melting some siding.
Firefighters said a Columbus Dispatch carrier saw the smoke and called 911.
He then went door to door, waking up people in the apartment to get them away from the flames.
Firefighters said they believed the fire started outside one of the garages, and quickly spread, destroying at least 3 of the garages.
No word on any injuries.
