An Ohio lawmaker urged a crowd of tens of thousands in the nation's capital to relaunch Dr. Martin Luther King's dream by pushing for voting-rights guarantees.
State Rep. Alicia Reece spoke at the Lincoln Memorial during a commemoration of the 50th anniversary of King's historic march on Washington and "I Have a Dream" speech.
The Cincinnati Enquirer reports that Reece said the nation can't wait another 50 years and that "it's time to make the dream real."
Reece says a Voter Bill of Rights needs to be added to state constitutions in the U.S. to guarantee protections for all voters, including freedom from intimidation.
The effort responds to a decision by the U.S. Supreme Court striking down a section of the 1965 Voting Rights Act.Act.
