Police Search For Shoplifter Who Ran Into Girl, 5, While Fleeing Authorities At Whitehall Store

Police said a shoplifter at a Whitehall store caused a young girl to be hospitalized.

According to Whitehall police, a man was seen hiding items under his clothes at the Walmart store, located at 3657 E. Main St., at about 6 p.m. Aug. 18.

The man was stopped by a security guard, and while he was being detained, the shoplifter fled.

Mareli Martinez was with her mother on Sunday night, when police say the man ran into her while he was trying to flee from authorities.

The child's injury required several stitches at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Her mother, Elizabeth Cadoron, who is eight months pregnant, witnessed the incident.

"He came from behind when he run and go fast. He pushed my daughter and when he pushed her she hit the rack and there was a lot of bleeding and everybody saw me and her and called the ambulance," said Cadoron.

The suspect was able to get away.
