Lieutenant Mike Shirey of the Truro Township Fire Department is sometimes chased from the kitchen because he has been known to steal a bite of food.
Even on his last day on the job, his co-workers joked with him about it.
In fact, the whole crew chipped in to make taco salad for Shirey as he wrapped up his time at the station.
Among those who were there was Shirey's father, Frank. It was 18 years ago that Frank stood at the same spot Mike did.
"The last day I kept watching the watch," said Frank.
"Time goes so fast," added Mike.
Frank says he is proud of his son.
Just one week ago, a father and three month old child escaped a fire in their Reynoldsburg basement. It would be one of Mike Shirey's final investigations for the Truro Township Fire Department.
"When I started reflecting back on my whole career, the runs that we had, the real bad things that we seen; to think that you're not going to be a part of that anymore helping out," said Shirey. "My dad came on in 57, I was born in 59. This township has been in my blood my whole life, and it has been a good career.
Mike says it's time for somebody else to take the job. He just wishes there was another Shirey stepping in.
Even though Monday was Mike's last day, he'll have to go back for one more thing.
He now owes his firefighter brothers ice cream.
It's part of an ongoing bet at the fire house, that anyone who ends up on television must buy a treat for the whole crew.
