Several homes and businesses had to be evacuated in Prairie Township on Saturday afternoon due to a large gas leak.
A construction crew hit the gas line around 12:30 p.m. at West Broad Street and Woodlawn Avenue.
Workers with Columbia Gas of Ohio contained the gas leak shortly after 7 p.m. Traffic has resumed along Broad Street after being shut down while workers fixed the gas leak.
The Red Cross set up an emergency canteen with water and food for evacuees at Woodlawn Avenue and Palmetto Street. Approximately 40 people were at that location.
