A family in south Columbus is dealing with a large tree which collapsed on top of their home during Wednesday’s storm.
Rick Thomas lives on Moler Street on the city’s south side. He was packing up his back deck after day in the pool right before the storm hit. Suddenly, he heard a large sound.
When his wife checked to see what it was, she found her neighbors tree right on top of the front porch.
While Thomas says he wishes it would not have happened, he considers himself lucky more than anything else.
“My wife and my dog were out there right before ,” Thomas said. “Somebody could have been hurt.”
The home suffered substantial damage, primarily to the front porch and patio.
10TV asked Thomas if he’ll be more cautious when the next storm hits.
“At least the tree won’t be there,” he said.
The next steps involve trying to figure out how to get the tree out of the front yard, and most importantly, how to pay for it. Thomas and his neighbor are working with their insurance companies.
