Father's Murder Remains Cold Case After Three Years

UPDATED: Thursday July 11, 2013 11:53 PM

Jack Burgoon was a successful businessman and beloved father, but someone wanted him dead.

Saturday will mark three years since the 62 year old grandfather was gunned down in his driveway.

Who killed him and why remains a mystery.

Weeds have overtaken the Mount Sterling home Burgoon built.

Three years after his death the flowers he planted here still bloom and the daughters he raised still grieve.

Melissa Barnes was the first of the sisters to arrive the morning a neighbor found Jack dead in his driveway.

"When I pulled up on that scene and I seen him laying there, you know, I was hoping he wasn't gone and I went up to him and I begged him to come back. I said 'come back for your girls'."

"At that point she just knew Dad was gone," said daughter Angel Hillberry. "Somebody had shot him. We didn't know if he was robbed or what. And then come to find out, he wasn't robbed at all."

Investigators say it wasn't a robbery and it wasn't random.

They say someone ambushed Burgoon with the intent to kill him.

"I just want to know why?" said daughter Nina Allen. "Why did you- what did my dad do for you to take his life?"

Burgoon had a long successful career at Allied Fabricating and Welding, starting as a truck driver, rising to President.

Investigators said by all accounts, he lived a clean, honest life. It makes his killing all the more puzzling.

"It's something that's hard to heal from completely. And I think that's because we haven't had any closure," said Hillberry.

Investigators found Burgoon's red pickup a few miles from his home.

They believe the killer used it to get away, but say he or she had help.

"I just want someone to pay for what they've done to my father," said Allen.

There is a 10-thousand dollar reward for information leading to the arrest of Jack Burgoon's killer.
