Family Seeks Help Solving Murder

UPDATED: Tuesday July 2, 2013 12:09 AM

Monday night, family members gathered and prepared to lay 21-year-old Akeem Johnson to rest.

"It hurts so bad," said his father, Claiborne Johnson.

His parents say Akeem, known to many as A.J., must have walked out of the house alone June 24.

Hours later, passers-by called authorities when they saw a body outside the entrance to Greenlawn Cemetery.

Authorities say Johnson was shot to death. But so far, what happened, and who shot him, are questions that haven't been answered.

"He didn't deserve that at all," his father said.

His family is looking for answers, wondering who would kill a young man, who they say had a smile on his face since the day he was born.

"He just smiles all the time. So as he grew up, he kept that same smile and that let me know that he was a special kid," his father said.

The Franklin County Sheriff's Office says it's following up on leads, but was asking the public for help.
