Worthington City Councilman Accused Of Inappropriately Touching Intern

Police have charged a Worthington City Council member with gross sexual imposition after an alleged incident with an intern.

Joseph Davis has been on city council since 2011. He also co-owns Worthington Jewelers, according to his city bio.

Investigators said that a 17-year-old girl, who is a student at Thomas Worthington High School, reported being inappropriately touched by Davis, 43, while serving as an intern at the business Davis owned in Downtown Worthington.

According to the police report, the alleged crime occurred inside the store in a room outside of public view. Police said the alleged crime occurred on two separate occasions.

Police said the girl was part of intern program at Thomas Worthington High School.

Police say Davis declined to talk to detectives when he turned himself in.

According to his bio, Davis has also served as past president of the Olde Worthington Business Association and as a member of the Worthington Area Chamber of Commerce and the Worthington AM Rotary.

The gross sexual imposition charge carries a maximum sentence of 18 months, according to a police news release.

The case will be presented to the Franklin County Grand Jury in the near future, according to authorities.

Davis was not immediately available for comment.
