A Licking County man will serve three years in prison for involuntary manslaughter.
Cody Williams, 23, of Hebron was convicted of involuntary manslaughter and using a weapon while intoxicated.
Williams admitted to accidentally shooting and killing 19-year-old James Ballman, on February 2, with a .44 caliber revolver.
Williams also admitted to drinking before picking up the weapon.
The incident occurred in an apartment building near Burning Tree Golf Course.
In an interview in February, Ballman’s grandmother told 10TV that her grandson was shot in the neck, but that Williams didn’t mean to do it.
“I know (Williams) is feeling really bad,” Sigrid Ballman said. “He passed out when it happened.”
The sheriff’s office said other witnesses present at the time of the incident also said the shooting was accidental.
