Fire officials responded to a home in northeast Columbus on a report of a drowning Monday afternoon.
The call came in shortly before 1 p.m. regarding a 2-year-old boy found unresponsive in a pool in the 2700 block of Ferris Road.
Law enforcement officials confirmed at about 4 p.m. that the baby had died about an hour after he was hospitalized.
A passerby tried to save the boy by performing CPR after seeing the boy and his mother standing on the side of the road begging for help.
“They said the baby got out of the house somehow while the sister was changing the (diaper) on one of the other children and got into the pool,” said witness Malia Holton. “When I came out, the baby was in the ambulance and he was already gone.”
