Business Owners Replace Air Conditioning Units For Second Time After Thefts

UPDATED: Monday June 24, 2013 5:30 PM

Thieves have targeted businesses along Worthington Woods Boulevard and Oak Meadows Drive for their air conditioners recently.

According to police, thieves stole more than a dozen air conditioning units overnight. Some businesses have been targeted twice.

Workers were forced to open doors on Monday to stay cool and some planned shorter work days.

The impact threatened to shut down operations at Microweld Engineering.

“The damage that they’re doing is not just to air conditioning units, but if we can’t perform our welding services, we lose thousands of dollars a day,” said Dan Mitchell of Microweld. “That affects all of our employees and our families.”

The crimes took place in both Worthington and Columbus.

Police are investigating.

Some business owners said they planned to explore new security options to protect their properties.
