Crime Stoppers Offer Cash Reward For Information About 1987 Homicide

In this week’s “Crime of the Week,” Central Ohio Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward for information on a homicide that took place on the northeast side of Columbus in 1987.

Columbus officers were dispatched to the 2300 block of Delavan Drive at approximately 10:30 a.m. on June 26, 1987, in response to a stabbing.

After arriving at the scene, the officers found the victim who had been stabbed multiple times.

The victim was identified as a 77-year-old Anna Mae Florence.

She was transported to St. Anthony Hospital, where she later died from the stab wounds.

She had also received blunt force trauma to the head after the suspect beat her in the head with a telephone. According to a press release, robbery was the motive in the attack.

At the time of the attempting robbery, the victim’s sister and brother-in-law had gone to Florence’s house to take her shopping.

Upon knocking on the front door, the brother-in-law could hear the victim screaming. He tried to kick in the door, and at the same time, the door opened and a woman ran out.

The brother-in-law tried grabbing the suspect, but was unable to because she was covered in blood and slipped away from his grasp.

A cash reward is being offered by Crime Stoppers for any information leading to the arrest or indictment of the persons that are responsible for this crime.
