Thieves in Knox County are targeting storm sewer grates.
Mayor Richard Mavis says the city has lost nearly 30 grates this spring and up to 50 to 60 grates have been stolen countywide.
Officials believe the thieves are taking them to sell for scrap.
The city is working on ways to make the grates more difficult to steal, such as spot-welding them in place or installing a locking metal strap.
The grates can cost $80 to $120 to replace.
