Police say a man was hospitalized early Saturday afternoon after refusing to give another person a cigarette.
According to police, a man was shot in the 1300 block of Indianola Avenue at about 11:30 a.m.
Police said another man asked if he could have a cigarette, and after saying no, the man was shot.
After being shot, the man and his girlfriend drove to East 9th Avenue and Section Alley, where police responded.
One neighborhood resident said he saw police swarm on the scene in force.
"I mean, there were police cars coming from everywhere. They flew by one way, and then they came back. And I walked over here, and that's when I saw them over here," Fred Koons said.
The man was taken to the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in unknown condition.
The shooting remained under investigation.
