With gas prices rising over $4 per gallon this year, the Central Ohio Transit Authority is set to join other public transportation systems nationwide to participate in the seventh-annual National Dump the Pump Day on June 20.

National Dump the Pump Day is sponsored by the American Public Transportation Association and encourages the public to incorporate public transit or ride public transportation into their routine to save money, according to COTA officials.

The slogan for this year’s National Dump the Pump Day is “Dump the Pump. Save Money. Ride Transit.”

COTA officials said that central Ohioans can make a positive impact on both the environment and their wallets by riding the bus.

Riders can park a vehicle and ride the bus or use COTA’s free Bike’n Bus service with bus fare.

According to the APTA Transit Savings Report, $9,700 can be saved annually by a two-person household by downsizing to one motor vehicle.
