Columbus police arrested a man caught breaking into a Clintonville home as the homeowners slept inside.

The break-in happened in the 100 block of Croswell Road around 6 a.m. Friday.

The victim said the suspect entered through an unlocked door and removed a video game system and computer from the home.

A strange noise alerted the victim, who found the back door open and police already bringing the suspect out of the back yard.

“It’s alarming, because my wife has been on me to make sure the doors are locked,” said victim Steve Guthrie. “She has been following a thread where people are talking about some of the crimes in the community. It’s kind of ironic how after all that, we have this incident happen in our own home.”

The suspect, who was not immediately identified, is facing burglary charges.

Officers had increased patrols in the area after a series of recent home break-ins in Clintonville. Detectives are investigating if this suspect is linked to any of those cases.
