Ross County deputies responding to a report of suspected abuse of a 51-year-old man said they uncovered a suspected meth lab.

Deputies responded to Chestnut Street in Adelphi on Thursday after a neighbor reported suspicion that Bernie Rossiter was being abused.

When deputies arrived, Rossiter said that he was fine.

While at the residence, deputies said they detected a strong chemical odor coming from the residence and saw materials inside the residence used for manufacturing meth.

After executing a search warrant, authorities arrested Rossiter and charged him with permitting drug abuse.

Michael Gierhart, 35, of Laurelville also was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance.

The sheriff encourages neighbors to report any suspicious activity to the Sheriff's Office at 740-773-1185 or Southern Ohio Crime Stoppers at 740.773.TIPS or 1-800-222-TIPS.
