Damaged Covered Bridge Reopens On Ohio Campus

A central Ohio covered bridge that is more than a century old has reopened for public use four months after being damaged by a fire that authorities believed was intentionally set.

The Lancaster Eagle-Gazette reports the bridge at Ohio University's branch campus in Lancaster reopened this week.

The structure is known as the John Bright No. 2 Covered Bridge. It originally spanned a creek near Carroll but was moved to the campus 25 years ago to be preserved.

The fire January 15 damaged the deck of the bridge and two support posts. A campus official says repairs cost the school about $5,500.

He says city engineers determined the bridge is now structurally sound and safe to use.
