Temporary Bridge To Replace Section After Collapse

UPDATED: Saturday May 25, 2013 7:57 AM

Officials are looking for a temporary, pre-fabricated bridge to replace a collapsed, 160-foot section over Interstate 5 in Washington State.

Finding a temporary span could save months in terms of getting traffic on the key corridor to Canada moving again.

Building a replacement would take much longer.

Investigators are still looking for the cause of the collapse that injured three people.

A report Friday revealed officials performed a special inspection six months ago on the bridge because there were indications it had been struck.

The report says inspectors identified tears, deformations and gouges on the northbound side of the bridge.

The inspection report also details a variety of other problems with the bridge, including vegetation growing in panels, and rust.

It also summarized a variety of parts on the bridge that have been subjected to "high-load" hits.
