Corpse Flower Prepares To Bloom at OSU Greenhouse

UPDATED: Friday May 24, 2013 8:33 AM

One of Ohio State University's corpse flowers could bloom as soon as this weekend, researchers said.

The rare  titan arum could open up as soon as Saturday.

The plant gets the nickname from the smell it gives off which people say resembles a dead body.

The greenhouse's other titan arum "woody" bloomed earlier this month.

OSU says the extremely rare flower has only opened up 150 times worldwide since it was discovered in 1878.
