Columbus Attorney Faces 18 Sex-Related Charges

UPDATED: Monday May 20, 2013 7:23 PM

A prominent Columbus attorney who is charged with gross sexual imposition and public indecency now faces additional sex-related charges.

On Monday, attorney Javier Armengau turned himself in to authorities after being indicted on charges, including rape, indecent exposure, kidnapping and sexual battery.

Police said the charges stemmed from multiple accusers, at least one of whom was the mother of one of his clients.

Police executed a search warrant on the attorney’s Columbus office Monday morning.

Armengau was initially arrested in April by SWAT officers near his Brewery District office.

He is accused of forcibly fondling and exposing his genitals to a woman during an appointment at his office. The woman was the mother of a man who Armengau was representing in a trial.

At the time of his arrest, police asked other potential victims to come forward.

Police said that he posted bond on Monday and would be released from jail later in the day.
