Police said that 911 calls from the same number flooded dispatchers early Thursday.

According to the Westerville Police, dispatchers received dozens of calls from the same number at about 7 a.m.

The phone would ring, and as soon as the call was answered, the line would go dead.

Police were dispatched as soon as the calls started coming in.

Officers tried to locate the caller through a cell tower but did not find the caller. They later confirmed the calls were coming in from a malfunctioning cellphone.

Police said it is protocol to dispatch officers.
