An Athens County Towing Company that purchased a salvaged vehicle from Columbus found $78,000 in meth inside.
Athens County Sheriff Pat Kelly said the drugs weighed 777 grams and have an approximate street value of $78,477.
Kelly said the owner of Valley View Towing called the sheriff’s office on Wednesday to report that he found the drugs in a 1997 Chevrolet Tahoe that he purchased at Salvage Direct in Columbus.
The drugs were wrapped inside a bag of clothes by a black tape-wrapped piece of plastic in the back of the truck.
Officials initially thought the white powdery substance was cocaine or heroin, but tests showed that it was methamphetamine.
It is unknown who the owner of the truck is or how the drugs got there.
The incident is still under investigation, according to the sheriff’s office.
