Contaminated water is prompting a township to hand over a park to the city Hilliard.
Washington Township is finalizing plans for Hilliard to annex Homestead Park on Cosgray Road so the city can provide the park with a new water supply.
Washington Township officials said a test in October came back positive for bacteria from feces. A follow up test was negative, but at least five other samplings indicated coliform-tainted water.
According to the Columbus Dispatch, Hilliard is on the Columbus water supply and can provide that to the park. Under the agreement, Hilliard would not charge the township tap fees for water. The township would continue to maintain the park and its programs.
The township shut down the water supply this month and is providing bottled water to park users.
Officials said they hope the new water supply will be in place by the end of the summer.
