BBB: Scammers Could Take Over Computers Via Internet Explorer 8

UPDATED: Thursday May 9, 2013 3:07 PM

The Better Business Bureau issued an alert on Thursday about the possibility of scammers using Internet Explorer 8 to hack into users’ computers.

According to the BBB, the risk is for all users, regardless of whether the computer is at a home, business or a government office.

The FBI said the takeover could happen if a user visits or is redirected to a web page that can take advantage of the flaw in the browser.

If the browser is compromised, the FBI said the attacker could install programs; view, change or delete data; or create new accounts with full user rights.

The problem was first reported Wednesday.
