An inmate was back in a cell at the Franklin County jail Saturday night after authorities said he tried to escape.
Sheriff Zach Scott said Deangelo Williams disappeared in the visitation area of the jail around 9:30 p.m.
"He then climbed up into the ceiling. Within a minute of him climbing up in the ceiling, it was dispatched out through the radio systems here at the jail and on the outside. We then shut down the area and contained the area," Sheriff Scott said.
K9 units and Columbus police helicopters were used to search in the vicinity of the Jackson Pike facility while deputies were hunting inside the jail. The sheriff's office reported around 10:15 p.m. that Williams, 41, had been located.
Investigators were questioning his mother, who had been visiting him, about any role she might have played in her son's alleged escape attempt.
Williams was jailed on robbery charges and had been awaiting trial.
