A Grove City man is charged with OVI, leaving the scene of an injury accident and marked lane violations after police said he struck two teens and fled the scene.
Pickaway County Sheriff's deputies said 59-year-old Jack Tirey was driving down Era Road near U.S. Route 62 Thursday night when he veered out of his lane and struck two teens who were walking down the road.
Deputies said Tirey took off, and but stopped a short time later and was arrested after a witness to the crash followed him and reported him.
Medics were called to the scene, where the 17 year old was treated.
The 15 year old was taken to Nationwide Children's Hospital, where he was in fair condition with a broken pelvis and concussion.
Emery Smith, the father of one of the victims, said he was in the back yard when he heard the crash.
He said he had no idea his son had been struck until a witness to the crash called and told him.
Smith’s son only suffered minor injuries, but he said he hopes Tirey takes responsibility for his actions.
In court on Friday morning, Tirey pleaded not guilty to the charges.
“I would like to get out on my own recognizance, I guess,” he said.
Tirey was held on $50,000 bond on Friday.
