40,000 Sign Student Petition To Try And Save Job Of Teacher Fired For Being Gay

Students at Bishop Watterson High School have created a petition to try and save the job of one of their teachers.

Carla Hale was fired from the school after her female partner's name was listed in an obituary for Hale's mother.

An anonymous letter was then sent to the Diocese complaining about her lifestyle.

"I was shocked,” Hale said. “That had nothing to do with my ability to teach and coach. I don't think I'm immoral, I don't think I've done anything that's unethical."

Now, a student-led petition drive has reached the 40,000 signature mark on the Change.org website.

The petition reads "To: Diocese of Columbus - Reinstate faculty member Carla Hale and apologize for discriminating against her on the basis of sexuality."
