Authorities said law enforcement officers from the city and Ohio University made a combined total of 27 arrests on 33 charges during a series of house parties on Saturday.
Athens police said about 10 parties were shut down between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. for violating the city's nuisance party ordinance.
Crowds thinned out around 7:30 p.m., according to Police Chief Tom Pyle. A news release indicated the remaining parties had shut down voluntarily by 8:30 p.m.
Athens County Emergency Medical Service responded to two calls for assistance, police said.
Authorities charged 10 people with open alcohol container violations, 9 people with underage drinking, 7 with public intoxication and 3 with public urination.
Other charges included marijuana possession, obstructing official business and possession of an illegal ID.
Figures on the number of arrests made by the Ohio Investigative Unit were not available on Saturday.
