Officer Injured After Suspect Struck Him With Saw Blade

Police say an officer was injured after a short foot pursuit on Friday.

Police said that Sgt. C. Cartwright responded to a report of shots fired out of a possible domestic situation along West Broad Street at about 11:30 a.m.

Authorities said Donivin L. Cunningham fired shots at the vehicle driven by the mother of his children, Dayisha Jones, following an argument.

Cunningham  then fled to a garage at 71 Eldon Ave.

Cunningham then allegedly attacked Cartwright with a large saw and struck him repeatedly with the blade in the head, face and arm.

Cunningham was taken into custody and charged with felonious assault and felonious assault to a peace officer.

He was taken to the Franklin County Jail.

The officer's condition has not been released.
