Parent Charged After Allegedly Punching Another After Fight At Middle School Basketball Game

Delaware County deputies say a parent got so mad over a middle school basketball game that he punched another parent in the face.

Richard Rodgers tried to respond to the judge during his arraignment but was cut off by his attorney.

Deputies said Rodgers assaulted a referee and broke another parent's nose.

It happened Sunday during a basketball tournament at Olentangy Local Schools' Shanahan Middle School in Lewis Center.   

The director of Ohio Youth Basketball, the organizer of the tournament, said Rodgers is a parent of a student who was playing on a fifth grade team.

The director said pending the outcome of court proceedings; the father may no longer be able to attend Ohio Youth Basketball events.

Rodgers faces felonious assault and assault charges.
