A man already convicted of gross sexual imposition changed his plea to no contest on Wednesday in connection with other charges in the case.
Thomas Shifflet was sentenced to five years on each of four counts of gross sexual imposition. A judge said he could serve the sentence concurrently, so he will spend a total of five years in prison.
Last month, a jury reached a verdict on only two of five charges against Shifflet, 76, of Glouster, who was accused of raping and molesting children.
According to Shifflet's attorney, the plea is being changed on the three charges that the jury did not reach a verdict on. The pleas will be changed from not guilty to no contest, in hopes to bring about a quicker appeal.
According to the Athens County Prosecutor's Office, Shifflet was found guilty of one count of gross sexual imposition and was found not guilty on one count of sexual imposition last month.
A jury was unable to reach a verdict on the other three counts, including one count of rape and two counts of gross sexual imposition.
On Wednesday, the rape charge was changed to gross sexual imposition.
Shifflet was charged after alleged incidents that took place at a daycare center run by his daughters. Investigators said Shifflet reportedly groped at least four children. Several children testified against Shifflet during the trial.
As part of the plea deal, Shifflet will also be required to register as a Tier 2 sexual predator for 25 years.
His attorneys said they would immediately begin the appeals process.
