UPDATED: Friday March 29, 2013 10:24 AM

A scrap metal business employee was recovering from a broken leg after alleged thieves struck him earlier in the week.

According to court documents, DeAngelo L. Williams and another man were attempting to steal scrap metal from a business in the 2000 block of South High Street on Monday, when an employee confronted them and closed the gate to the business.

Documents stated that Williams and the other man got back into their pickup truck and drove through the closed gate, steering toward the employee and running over his leg.

The employee suffered two broken bones in his right leg.

Williams was arrested on Tuesday after he allegedly struck a police cruiser during an attempted traffic stop that resulted in a brief chase, court documents stated. The police officer was injured in the crash.

Williams is charged with assaulting a police officer and aggravated robbery. He is jailed on a total of $120,000 bond.
