Federal Cuts Cancel Annual Cleveland Air Show

UPDATED: Monday March 25, 2013 4:42 PM

The Cleveland National Air Show has announced its cancellation because of federal budget cuts.

Organizers blame the impact of the automatic federal spending cuts that went into effect this year, which eliminated military support for the show, held over Labor Day weekend since 1964.

The air show said Monday the budget cuts affected the U.S. Air Force F-22 Raptor and U.S. Navy F/A-18 Super Hornet demonstrations, participation by the U.S. Army Golden Knights Parachute Team and all scheduled military display aircraft.

The air show also said military units that provide personnel and equipment to support the show couldn't commit this year.

Air show spokeswoman Kim Dell says the air show is scheduled to continue in 2014.
