Pet Owner Takes Action After Cat Shot To Death

A Licking County pet owner is pleading for the community's help to find out who shot his cat to death over the weekend.

"I just keep thinking it's a senseless act," said Daniel Whickliff.

Whickliff said Saturday afternoon his dogs started barking after a car stopped in front of his Osborn Road home. He said he heard a gunshot but didn't think anything of it.
"We hear so many gunshots around during the day time. We're out here in the country," Whickliff told 10TV's Jason Frazer.

Whickliff found the body of his cat, named Loverboy, in his yard. He said the cat had a bullet in his side.

"It busted his spine in several different places, it ricocheted off to the left." Whickliff said.

Whickliff posted a sign in front of his home asking neighbors to come forward.

"I'm hoping that word would get around and they would call the sheriff's department."

He built a memorial in his front yard to keep his cat's memory alive.

Whickliff believes the shooter was driving a light grey or blue suv.

A report was filed with the Licking County Sheriff's Office.
