Deputies arrested a man on Wednesday who is charged with assaulting a police officer.

According to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, deputies, along with members of the Central Ohio Drug Task Force and Homeland Security Investigations, arrested Fready Arnoldo Lopez, 28, at a home in the 3500 block of Brookside Boulevard on Wednesday.

Lopez was wanted for allegedly punching a deputy and then fleeing during a traffic stop in January.

During the stop, Lopez allegedly struck the deputy in the mouth and upper body and then ran on foot from the scene.

A warrant for his arrest was filed.

On Wednesday, with the help of the other agencies, deputies tracked Lopez to the Brookside Boulevard home, where Lopez also tried to flee in an SUV driven by 47-year-old Magdleno Ventura.

Lopez and Ventura were stopped, and both were arrested.

Ventura is charged with obstructing justice. Both were being held at the Franklin County Jail.
