Columbus Police and AEP crews were called to a west Columbus neighborhood early Thursday morning after a truck crashed into a pole.

It happened right in front of Dana Avenue Elementary School at the intersection of Sullivant Avenue and Princeton Avenues.  The pole crashed to the ground bringing down wires and a school zone sign with it.

The driver of the truck was rushed to Mount Carmel West Hospital.  The extent of his injuries is unknown.

Sullivant Avenue was closed between West Park and Dana Avenues while rescue workers chopped the pole down and cleaned up the scene. The road reopened at about noon.

No power outages were reported.

Dana Avenue Elementary was not closed or delayed because of the crash, but extra patrol may be needed to help get students to school safely due to the school zone sign that was damaged.
