The family of a man killed in an unsolved hit-skip crash is hoping a weekend fundraiser will benefit the high school he so loved.

Jacob Zang, 24, died on New Year’s Day when he was struck by a driver at the intersection of North Cassady Avenue and Drake Road in Mifflin Township. The driver took off.

Zang was a 2007 graduate of Bishop Hartley High School and served as a coach in the Hartley Youth Wrestling Association. He wanted to build a new wresting room for the team to practice, according to family members.

Shape 4 Life Studio on Eastwind Drive in Westerville is hosting the fundraiser on Saturday to make that possible. The fundraiser will be held from noon to 5 p.m.

The facility will hold a boot camp and spin and tone class for $15 per person. All proceeds will go to the development of the new gym.

“Activities, fundraisers like this allows us to continue his legacy on and just help future families and wrestlers that are going to come through Hartley just like he would have if he was still here,” said Kevin Petrella, the wrestling coach at Bishop Hartley.

Zang’s brother, Jack Zang, said that he hopes his brother’s legacy can live on.

“I’d just like his name somewhere, so people can see his name 20 years from now. To see his name and remember him,” Jack Zang said.
