Reynoldsburg High School Student Investigated For Allegedly Soliciting Nude Photos From Classmates

A 16-year-old high school student is accused of getting naked pictures of his classmates by using an Internet hoax called catfishing.

The student is under investigation after police said he posed as a teenage girl to solicit the pictures from his classmates.

Investigators said the teen, who 10TV News did not identify, created a fake email account, posted as a girl named “Sarah” and established an online relationship with two boys at school.

Det. Brian Marvin said the teen convinced the boys to send nude pictures of themselves.

“He was doing it, because he wanted to collect the images, not necessarily to embarrass anyone or hurt anybody,” said Marvin.

Marvin said the teen exchanged emails on a school laptop.

“The email containing the image was left open,” Marvin said. “So, another student found the image, was concerned and reported it and it trickled through the chain of command to the school resource officer.”

District officials said the student was removed from school pending the police investigation and an expulsion hearing.

Marvin said the investigation was ongoing but the student likely will be charged, as a juvenile, with pandering sexual oriented material – something, he said, the student never expected.

“I think they grasp that it is morally wrong or probably not a good thing to do, but I don’t think they fully grasp that it is illegal or committing a felony second degree, technically, in the state of Ohio,” Marvin said.
