A jury found the Orange Township Fire Department responsible in a gender discrimination case on Monday.

A jury also recommended nearly $1.7 million in damages plus attorney fees for former firefighter Rachel Peters, who said that she was sexually harassed and then fired from the department last year.

Peters was a rookie firefighter on probation when she said she was harassed. Peters has claimed the harassment happened inside an Orange Township Fire Hall.

In court documents, she claims that a fellow firefighter would use the only female bathroom while she was at work. And, she said, he used another restroom with the door open when she was close by.
