Children Find Rotting Animal Carcasses Near Playground; Officials Say It’s Legal

Parents in the Hamilton Meadows neighborhood are upset over a discovery made by some children playing in a park.

About a dozen rotting, wild animal carcasses were discovered by the children Monday, just feet away from a playground.

But state wildlife agents said the carcasses are on private property and not against the law.

“It's pretty disturbing to me - it looked like something out of a horror movie,” said parent Deb Loy.

Loy's sons were playing football at the Hamilton Township Park off Lockbourne Road when they stumbled upon the fenced metal cage on private property, just feet away from the park's walking path.

“We were playing, smelled something, and it was disgusting,” said Logan Loy.

“I'm furious that something like this happened in our area, and it's never been found, reported. If someone would even have the nerve to do something like this, where children play,” added Loy.

Agents with the Capital Area Humane Society checked out the cage and took pictures, and they were followed by agents from the state Division of Wildlife.

The man claiming to have dumped the animals arrived at the park to defend his actions on his property. He said they are just there to decay so that he could use the soil.

“Maybe if more kids would hunt and fish, it wouldn't be a problem. That's all I got to say, goodbye,” the man told 10TV.
