A barn burned in Union County early Thursday morning, closing a large intersection.
According to law enforcement officials, the barn fire, located on U.S. Route 42 between Industrial Parkway and state Route 736, began at about 4:45 a.m.
Jerome Township fire officials said that the building currently is vacant but housed the Plain City Barn Dance facility at one time.
The owners were considering turning the barn into a restaurant, fire officials said.
More than a dozen fire trucks were on the scene to battle the fire that took nearly four hours to extinguish.
A resident in the area said that the structure was a "total loss" because of the fire.
Crews had to pump water out of a nearby pond to fight the fire.
"A lot of the difficulty was we were sitting out here in the middle of the country, so we had water supply issues," said Chief Scott Skeldon of the Jerome Township Fire Department.
No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire was under investigation, and no other structures were affected.
Fire officials said the last time anyone was inside of the building was 6 months ago.
