Police are investigating a cluster of break-ins on the west side near Roberts and Hilliard-Rome roads.
10TV News learned that one of the victims was a target of burglars twice in two days. In one of the cases, burglars stole more than $7,000 worth of items.
Thomas Coverdale said he got a bad feeling when he walked into his girlfriend’s home. He was house sitting and realized that she had become the victim of a break-in.
“Everything, besides the can opener and toaster oven, they took,” Coverdale said.
Thieves also ransacked the bedroom, taking items that never can be replaced.
“Her entire life, pictures of her family she’ll never get back,” Coverdale said. “They stole her jewelry. She had lots of jewelry. They stole her grandmother’s wedding ring.”
The very next day, Coverdale returned to the home to find that thieves had returned.
“I came back, and the front door is open again, and they came back and they stole a TV and the Nintendo Wii, and I was gone for a half hour,” Coverdale said.
Coverdale installed metal brackets to secure the windows where the crooks broke in.
Police reports shows that another nearby resident was burglarized the same day.
“These guys have probably done this a few times,” Coverdale said.
