Ohio State University is moving closer to opening a garden on top of the roof of Howlett Hall.

A group led by the Chadwick Arboretum has been accepting donations to cultivate plants, as well as create walking paths and install benches on the roof.

Megan Welsh, coordinator of the project, said the OSU Department of Horticulture will be able to use the garden for learning.

She told 10TV the garden will also help insulate the roof, keeping the building below cooler during the warm summer months.

Ohio State envisioned a roof top garden for Howlett Hall in 1967, but the concept was never completed due because of a lack of funding.
