Police caught a pair of suspected shoplifters accused of running a shoplifting operation investigators called “shocking.”
Police said surveillance video caught 33-year-old Ronald May and 27-year-old Sarah White at the Macy’s at the Mall at Tuttle Crossing on Wednesday.
They said White went into the changing room with an arm full of clothes, but came out with only a few items.
Police said the other items were stuffed under the clothes she was wearing.
Officers said 20 minutes later, she returned wearing different clothes to return the items she had just stolen for cash.
Police said they watched White and May repeat the same scam at five different stores in one day.
Sergeant James Branam of the Columbus Division of Police said, “One particular theft involved $273 in a return. So you figure over several weeks, multiple times a day, you’re talking about several thousand dollars.
White and May are both charged with misdemeanor theft, with additional charges likely to come.
