Kitten That Suffered Chemical Burns To Face Ready For Adoption After Surgeries

A 10-month-old kitten -- saved from likely death on the streets after suffering chemical burns to its face -- is waiting for a new home.
    
The Oakland Press in Pontiac reports (http://bit.ly/Z2v9kv ) Friday that Chairman Waffles has recovered, but will need special attention for the rest of his life.
    
Officials at the Michigan Humane Society in Bingham Farms, north of Detroit, believe the kitten tried to drink some type of toxic liquid. It was rescued in September in Detroit.
    
Dead skin around Chairman Waffles' mouth and nose had to be removed, as was the hard palate in his mouth. Reconstructive surgery was performed by Humane Society veterinarians.
    
Humane Society spokesman Kevin Hatman says veterinarians are "pretty confident ... there's a very low risk for future severe medical problems."
